Boori Ma as she is walking up the stairs appears to be struggling. This moment highlights the tensions already present among the residents. It is said, as you get older you become more like a child than an adult in the fact you grow dependent on the youth around you to function. Once destroyed, her life slips away. As the story is about to reveal, this attitude will be contagious for the other residents.
Dalal is considered flaky, but Boori Ma is cast out when she is out of town and unable to protect her.
