Abraham Maslow was an American psychologist and philosopher who is best known for his theory of human motivation, which is known as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow was born on April 1, 1908, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents who were both Russian immigrants. He was the oldest of seven children and grew up in a poor, crowded household. Despite these difficult circumstances, Maslow excelled academically and received a scholarship to study at City College of New York.
After earning his bachelor's degree, Maslow went on to study psychology at the University of Wisconsin, where he received his master's degree and eventually his PhD. He then became a professor of psychology at Brooklyn College, where he taught for many years before moving on to teach at Brandeis University in Massachusetts.
Throughout his career, Maslow was known for his innovative ideas and his contributions to the field of psychology. In addition to his work on the Hierarchy of Needs, Maslow also made significant contributions to the fields of humanistic psychology and self-actualization. He believed that all people have an innate desire to reach their full potential and that this desire is what drives human motivation.
Maslow's theories have had a major influence on psychology and continue to be studied and applied in various fields today. He died on June 8, 1970, at the age of 62, but his legacy lives on through his influential work and his contributions to the field of psychology.
