Animal Farm is a political allegory written by George Orwell, whose real name was Eric Arthur Blair. Orwell was born in 1903 in Bengal, India, where his father worked as a civil servant. Orwell spent much of his childhood in England, where he was educated at Eton College. After completing his education, he returned to India to work as a police officer in the Indian Imperial Police. However, Orwell became disillusioned with the British Empire and resigned from his position in 1927.
Orwell was a prolific writer and journalist, and his works often focused on social and political issues. In addition to Animal Farm, he is best known for his novels 1984 and Homage to Catalonia, as well as his essays and journalism. He was also a vocal critic of totalitarianism and censorship, and his works often explored the dangers of these forces.
Animal Farm was published in 1945, and it quickly became a classic of political literature. The novel tells the story of a group of farm animals who overthrow their human owner and establish their own government. However, the new government quickly becomes corrupt and the animals find themselves living in a society that is not much better than the one they had previously rebelled against. The novel is a satirical critique of the Stalinist regime in the Soviet Union, and it remains a powerful warning against the dangers of totalitarianism and the need for vigilance against its rise.
Orwell died in 1950 at the age of 47, but his works continue to be widely read and admired for their insight and clarity. Animal Farm remains one of his most enduring works, and its message is as relevant today as it was when it was first published.
