The Arthurian legend is a cycle of stories and medieval romances centered around the legendary King Arthur of Britain. According to the legend, Arthur was a wise and just ruler who brought peace and prosperity to his kingdom. He was aided by a group of loyal knights, known as the Knights of the Round Table, who were bound by a code of chivalry and dedicated to upholding justice and righteousness.
One of the most well-known stories in the Arthurian legend is the quest for the Holy Grail, a sacred relic believed to have magical powers. Many of the knights of the Round Table set out on a quest to find the Grail, and the quest became a central theme in Arthurian literature.
Another important figure in the Arthurian legend is Merlin, a powerful wizard who served as Arthur's advisor and mentor. Merlin was said to possess magical powers and was able to predict the future. He played a key role in helping Arthur become king and in maintaining peace in the kingdom.
The Arthurian legend also includes the story of Lancelot, one of the most famous knights of the Round Table. Lancelot was known for his bravery and chivalry, and he was a close friend and ally of Arthur. However, his relationship with Arthur's queen, Guinevere, caused tensions within the court and ultimately led to the downfall of the kingdom.
Despite its fantastical elements, the Arthurian legend has enduring appeal and continues to be a popular subject in literature, film, and other media. It serves as a reminder of the enduring values of honor, loyalty, and self-sacrifice, and inspires people to strive for greatness and to live their lives with integrity.

It hangs on the wall, looking like an enormous dartboard with green and white segments painted onto it to indicate the places where the king and his knights once sat. The chief characteristics of the English romances are: the tone of unreality, the idealization of virtues, the downright condemnation of vices, the spirit of adventure in a world detached from the banalities of life, an urge for the marvelous and the unattainable, worship of a beautiful lady or the cult of woman-worship, or the Virgin cult, the quest for chivalry, supernaturalism, and type and not individualized characters. From castle to village, to every far corner of the land. The Saxons, having learned of the civil war, began invading England once more. Merlin's cave supposedly lies directly below the ruins, piercing the great cliff, cutting through to a rocky beach on the other side of the headland. Often, proving himself worthy meant that the knight had to complete a dangerous quest, which always involved defending the principles of chivalry in some way. Arthur loved nothing more than to serve his brother as a squire. One of the most popular modern Arthurian novels is T. Some time after Arthur was crowned king of England Merlin disappears in the legend stories but reappears during the reign when he becomes infatuated with Nimue who was also called Viviane. As the pyre was being lighted Sir Launcelot rode up with a company of knights, killed many of Arthur's men, including Gawain's brothers, and rescued the queen from the fire. Of merely antiquarian interest during the 18th century, it again figured in Arthur Rex 1978.
Sir Launcelot was the ablest knight in the kingdom, but he sinned adulterously with Queen Guinevere, and through that sinning he brought about a fatal breach in Arthur's court. His wife is Guinevere. Ambrosius sent for the magician, who advised him to obtain the Dance of Giants stones from Ireland. Pellinore knocked Arthur unconscious while wrestling and was about to slay him when Merlin cast a spell that put Pellinore to sleep. Arthur and Merlin safely ride in a swan boat to the middle of the lake, where the Lady of the Lake holds up her arm and hands Arthur the great Excaliber.
Robert de Boron wrote a fulllength romance about Merlin. These knights vie with one another to test their courage, might, and nobility. Arthur was a thin lad, not strong like his big brother Kay. Back in Cornwall, Tristram told King Mark of the beautiful Iseult, and the king decided to make her his queen. Kay could not sit still for lessons and he stopped coming. However, Sir Ector forced his son to confess that Arthur had given him the sword. The Golden Knight had an ailing wife who could only be healed by a virgin's blood.

Lionel saw a huge knight defeat three other knights. At last Launcelot in a spirit of generosity saved Arthur's life during a battle, and when he offered to return Guinevere and exile himself from England Arthur made truce with him. Tristram became famous for his knightly services at King Arthur's court, defeating every opponent but Launcelot. Sir Lamorak is in the middle of much of the drama between the Knights of the Round Table. The two conspirators overheard Guinevere invite Launcelot secretly to her room one night. Arthurian legend forms the centerpiece of the Matter of Britain, which is the body of medieval literature and legends associated with Great Britain and Brittany. Popular in France, Lancelot did not have a high stock in England.
More likely, it's that of a Celtic chieftain. In 1859 the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson published the first part of Idylls of the King, a book-length poem about Arthur and his knights. Faithful to Guinevere, Launcelot chose prison, but he was rescued by a young lady who asked him to aid her father in a tournament. Whenever Arthur was tempted to make peace with Launcelot, Gawain grew angry, for he was carrying on a blood feud with Launcelot. He was knighted by Arthur and briefly joined the Knights of the Round Table before exposing the love affair between Guinevere and Lancelot. He focused on magic and marvels and introduced the theme of the quest for the Holy Grail.
This, however, was not the only quest found in Arthurian legend. Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote in Latin, and his book was read and treated as a history book in the Middle Ages. The Arthurian romances are later than those inspired by Charlemagne. Guinevere promised him a knightship at the Round Table if he succeeded. But as a parting gift she sent Arthur a beautiful robe.

They retreated to Launcelot's castle, the Joyous Gard, and Arthur and Gawain laid siege to the place. He is lured to his death by a challenge set by a strange visitor: The Green Knight. A lady asked him to rescue a falcon that had become entangled in a tree, and while Launcelot was defenseless in the tree the lady's husband rode up and tried to kill him.
