When you forget the clothes, it is only the style that stays. Fashion has to do with the ideas, the way we live, what is happening. Music halls attract sugar daddies; they both size up the situation and make their choices. Through Balsan, she meets the bold actress Emilienne Tautou isn't stereotypically beautiful but more uniquely fetching. That's not how it works.
But that could've been condensed into an hour, leaving another hour for more of her life. There has been controversy over the hemming of Chanel's reputation as a Nazi sympathizer. Sadly, it never becomes a great film as it only focuses on one part of Chanels life, which Coco Before Chanel possessed the ability to match other famous French Biopic La Vie En Rose, with Audrey Tautou in the cast and a subject of one of the most prominent figures in the fashion industry. Chanel was ambitious, determined and hard-working lady whose effort clearly reflected in her work. Anne Fontaine really did a fine job of showing the trials and tribulations, the ordeals that Coco had to go through in order to be vastly successful.

Though her career takes off, her personal life becomes more complicated when she falls in love with Balsan's former best friend Arthur Capel. She's both a seamstress for the performers and a singer, adopting the nickname Coco from her father in early childhood. Her nonconformist designs, stressing simplicity and comfort, revolutionized the fashion industry for the next 30 years. Overall, Chanel is a perfect example of a film with a good premise and subject, but fails to reach the potential that it is allotted. This speaks volumes about what a legendary style and fashion icon she was. Héctor attempts to return Miguel to his relatives, but Miguel escapes and infiltrates Ernesto's mansion, learning along the way that an old friendship between the two deteriorated before Héctor's death. Coco continues developing independently her own new vision of how a modern woman should be dressed, in a style that conveys freedom and self-determination, rather than being a man's toy.
Its certainly not a bad film but its not one of the most memorable either, hence my rating. Probably one of my fifty favourite films by a female director. Thanks to the reverence that the brand affords, she was able to source extant vintage Chanel to dress the models. Imelda blesses Miguel with no conditions attached so he can return to the Land of the Living, where he plays a song for Coco that Héctor wrote for her during her childhood. The song sparks her memory of Héctor and revitalizes her, and she gives Miguel the torn-out piece of the photo from the ofrenda, which shows Héctor's face.
How she built her life in the beginning, I found very touching and incredible. In one scene, she cuts a swathe through a crowded ballroom in a stark black dress, and is infinitely more elegant than the wearers of fussy frocks all around her. One can only assume that, as in the real world of high fashion, money was no object. In return, Héctor asks Miguel to take his photo back to the Land of the Living so he can visit his daughter before she forgets him and he disappears completely. Chanel is known for rethinking women's clothing, embracing simplicity, modernity and androgyny over the elaborate outfits in fashion at the time. Chanel had a tough time in Aubazine, as it was a demanding place, and thus she fled from there to boarding house for Catholic girls in the town of Moulins. By underlining that, the movie becomes more absorbing.
