A mockingjay is a fictional bird that appears in the popular science fiction series "The Hunger Games." The series, written by Suzanne Collins, is set in a dystopian future in which the Capitol, a wealthy and technologically advanced city, holds an annual event called the Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, one boy and one girl from each of the Capitol's twelve districts are chosen through a lottery system and forced to participate in a televised fight to the death.
The mockingjay is a hybrid species created by the Capitol through genetic engineering. It is a cross between a mockingbird and a jabberjay, which was a species of bird that was originally created to spy on rebels during the Dark Days, a period of unrest in the history of Panem, the dystopian society in which the Hunger Games takes place. The jabberjays were capable of repeating and memorizing entire conversations, making them useful for spying and gathering intelligence. However, the rebels discovered the jabberjays' true purpose and began feeding them false information, causing the Capitol to abandon the project.
The mockingjays, on the other hand, were created by accident when the Capitol released the jabberjays into the wild and they bred with the native mockingbirds. The mockingjays retained the jabberjays' ability to repeat and memorize songs, but they were not as reliable at repeating speech, making them less useful for spying. However, they became a symbol of rebellion against the Capitol, as they were the product of the Capitol's own failed experiment.
In the Hunger Games series, the mockingjay becomes a symbol of hope and resistance for the people of the districts. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, wears a mockingjay pin as a symbol of her own rebellion against the Capitol and becomes known as "the Mockingjay." The mockingjay also plays a significant role in the plot of the series, as it becomes a way for the rebels to communicate and spread information about the rebellion.
Overall, the mockingjay is a complex and multifaceted symbol in the Hunger Games series. It represents the dangers of genetic engineering and the corrupting influence of power, as well as the resilience and hope of those who resist oppression.

The book was a resounding success, selling 450,000 copies in the first week alone. By comparison, this is myth, poetry, cinema. Likewise, Gale denies knowing if the plan was formed from one of his ideas, but by this point Katniss has lost what little ability she had left to take people at their word. Many of the characters I have grown to love over the past two books are suddenly killed off. They pick up tunes quickly, and often spread them to other nearby mockingjays.

Katniss can see where this is all heading and not only kills Coin instead of Snow, she ultimately self-exiles herself to the remains of Distrcit 12 with Peeta and their two kids. The book continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, who agrees to unify the districts of Panem in a rebellion against the tyrannical Capitol. Coin doesn't give a damn and actually bombs them and blames Snow so even the Capitol turns against him. If a person sings and the mockingjays fall silent, it means that they like the song and are paying attention. This was the plot of Hobbit 1 and Man of Steel and, weirdly, the Iron Man sequelsâbut not the first Iron Man, which skips right to the actual fun part of a hero being a hero.
