This voice for purity of wizardry blood started with Salazar Slytherin and is carried forward by Voldemort and Malfoys. He is told repeatedly that he is not worthy of the Dursley's his aunt, uncle, and rotund cousin love. The movie doesn't tap into these anxieties enough, so why should we care whether he wins the Quidditch match other than that he survives in one piece and gets through the school year?
