The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is the third and final installment in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy. The story picks up where the previous book, Catching Fire, left off, with Katniss Everdeen and other surviving tributes being rescued from the Quarter Quell and taken to the underground rebel base in District 13.
At the start of Mockingjay, Katniss is recovering from the physical and emotional trauma of the Hunger Games, and is struggling to come to terms with the fact that Peeta Mellark, her fellow tribute and love interest, has been captured and brainwashed by the Capitol. She is approached by President Coin, the leader of District 13, who wants her to become the "Mockingjay", the symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol. Coin hopes that Katniss will inspire the people of the districts to rise up against their oppressors, using her fame and popularity from the Hunger Games.
Katniss is hesitant at first, but eventually agrees to become the Mockingjay on the condition that all the tributes who were forced to participate in the Hunger Games be spared from any future battles. She begins filming propaganda pieces with a team of rebels, including her old friend Gale Hawthorne, who have been fighting against the Capitol.
As the rebellion gains momentum, Katniss becomes more and more involved in the fighting. She leads a team of rebels on a mission to the Capitol to assassinate President Snow, the tyrannical leader of the Capitol who has been responsible for the Hunger Games and other atrocities. Along the way, they face many dangers and obstacles, including attacks from the Capitol's forces and mutts (genetically engineered creatures).
Eventually, Katniss and her team make it to the Capitol and confront Snow. But instead of killing him, Katniss chooses to spare his life, believing that executing him will not bring true justice. In the end, Snow is arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment, and the districts are granted autonomy and the right to self-govern.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is a powerful and thought-provoking tale about the dangers of totalitarianism and the importance of standing up for what you believe in. It is a fitting end to the Hunger Games trilogy, and leaves the reader with a sense of hope and optimism for the future.

Katniss spends the next few days with her mother and sister, Primrose, and hears explosions above her, indicating that the government is bombing District 13. However, the star squad will not fight, they will only shoot propos. District 13 is by and large an underground fortress. President Snow becomes obsessed with destroying Katniss Everdeen and everyone and everything she loves. District 13 functioned from an underground facility and was able to build up enough supplies for a second uprising.
Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, is a young adult dystopian novel about government control and loss of individualism and is the third book in Collins's Hunger Games Trilogy—following The Hunger Games 2008 and Catching Fire 2009. Enobaria, a past victor, ripped someone's throat out with her teeth to win the games — a move that's as ruthless as the book describes. Katniss steels herself for what comes next, even as she struggles with the ramifications of the Games. Cutting Mockingjay into two movies served no real purpose and actually made both films drag on, creating several boring unnecessary scenes. While two children are chosen from each district to participate for the Hunger Games, some stand a better chance at survival over others. She manages to unify some of the districts, but Peeta is still to be rescued. The Capitol provides them with food and oil, but the districts provide everything for the Capitol.
The first rebellion proved to be unsuccessful, but 75 years later, District 13 succeeded in overthrowing President Snow.  Like many books that are immensely popular with kids and adults alike, the trilogy was quickly turned into a movie franchise. Katniss is horrified that Coin has sent Peeta to be with her, and privately wonders if Coin wants her dead. However, Peeta has undergone extensive fear conditioning by the Capitol and now views Katniss as a threat. Coin realises that the bombers are just looking for their defenses and orders them to just stay quiet. When she is freed, Plutarch explains that Commander Paylor is the new president of Panem, and that he and Gale have been given powerful roles in the new regime.
In her books, Collins focuses on food as a symbol of wealth and inequality. Peeta votes against the idea, but the other competitors, including Katniss and Haymitch, support it. Katniss realizes that the children from the Capitol are being herded into a pin in front of it. Haymitch realizes that Peeta was trying to warn the rebels of a government attack. Â The four career tributes may appear to be brutal but they make some very poor choices throughout the first movie. Haymitch realizes that Peeta has been tortured and conditioned by the government until he believes that Katniss is the cause of all evil in Panem.
One of the many traps that the gamemakers set for the tributes is poisonous fog. They are now in District 13 and recuperating from their past experiences. Their relationship arc was one of the most complex storylines of the entire series and it is easy to see why. Katniss has escaped from the Hunger Games arena with the help of her mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, a number of other Hunger Games competitors, and Plutarch Heavensbee, a double agent who pretended to be working for the government, but in actuality works for a secret rebel alliance dedicated to defeating the government. While there are still books being written with girls and young women who resemble Twilight's Bella, there are even more characters who resemble Katniss. Katniss remembers the double bomb that Gale and Beetee showed her, and realizes that Snow is probably telling the truth. If people are literally starving, then they are not going to be able to effectively do their job, which in turn, negatively affects the Capitol.
She then prepares to kill President Snow, but on the fateful day, she points her arrow at President Coin instead. The first two installments notably the second were critically acclaimed, while the last two films were met with generally positive responses from critics. That being said, are there not any other civilizations in the entire world? Katniss steps up to perform her role of executing Snow, but instead aims higher and shoots Coin with her arrow. Apparently, the brainwashing can also be reversed, which President Snow and his minions did not think through. Afterward, Haymitch warns Katniss that she has made enemies through these acts of defiance.
 Katniss is supposedly the first person to ever volunteer but is this really believable? But she isn't the only strong female competitor. The three books were adapted into a highly successful film series of four films between 2012 and 2015, including a two-film treatment of Mockingjay in 2014 and 2015, in which Katniss is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. After sitting patiently through not one, but two Mockingjay movies that are both over two hours, fans were probably expecting a big battle between the Peacekeepers. However, she develops an unbreakable bond with Peeta Mellark during the Hunger Games. As another one of her conditions, Katniss ensures that Peeta will be issued a full pardon when the war is over.

The Hunger Games has also impacted the young adult genre. She spends most of her time in the hospital, and when she is discharged, she ignores her duties and tries to keep a hold on reality. Most people prefer books over movie adaptations and this goes for The Hunger Games as well. Women and girls in the Games are pillars of strength, symbols of hope.
