London Life In 1890 John settled in London intending to pursue a full-time career as a writer. Eventually as the hours passed Menzies and a neighbour went out looking for him, walking the promenade towards Mousehole but could see no sign of the poet. In 1986, Their middle son, Jesse, then five-years-old, had been diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy , a rare and fatal muscle disorder affecting children, with the vast majority of those diagnosed being boys.
