Ophelia, the young daughter of Polonius and the object of Prince Hamlet's affection, is a tragic figure in Shakespeare's play "Hamlet." She is a victim of circumstances beyond her control, and her ultimate demise serves as a poignant reminder of the destructive power of manipulation and betrayal.
At the beginning of the play, Ophelia is a sweet and innocent young woman who is deeply in love with Hamlet. However, she is also caught in the middle of the complex power struggles and political machinations at the Danish court. Her father, Polonius, advises her to stay away from Hamlet, and the manipulative King Claudius and Queen Gertrude also try to keep the two lovers apart.
As the play progresses, the pressure on Ophelia becomes too much to bear. Hamlet, driven mad by the ghost of his father and the revelation that Claudius murdered him, lashes out at Ophelia and rejects her. It is not clear whether her drowning was an accident or a suicide, but either way, it is a tragic and poignant end to a young woman who was caught in the crossfire of the conflicts and scheming at the Danish court.

This is not just a tragic death, it is a death that also happens to look beautiful. After lying in the cold water for hours, Siddal subsequently became seriously ill and came close to death.
