This one can and I gave her a point for that. Locke seems more interested in the politics than the murder, which is fine by me, but the ending becomes a little hurried when the crime has to be solved. Now, David and Jennifer must adjust to a 50s lifestyle of repressed desires and considerably different societal values while trying to find their way home. The town fathers, who see the changes as eating away at the town's moral values, remain unchanged. She pushed him to follow through on his enormous case against the oil company that had sickened, even Jay Porter has a full plate, and so his legal career has been set on cruise control. I already think there is evil enough in this world without dwelling on girls who are snatched from dark, deserted street corners, pregnant teenagers or middle of the night break-ins. We respect him for it, and I nodded with approval at the e-reader as I fed the dog, went out to get the mail.

It's funny, but it also deals with important themes such as racism and the great social movement of the 60s, but presented through the change television made during that time. After David teaches Bill that he can autonomously affect his own business, and after Jennifer has sex with Skip, the world slowly begins to fill with colors. Betty calls them into the kitchen, as David puts the remote control under a nearby chair. I used to know someone who referred to some folks who fit that category as being a shark in a goldfish bowl.

David tries to reason with the repairman, communicating through the Parkers' television but the repairman declares that the world of Pleasantville is better than the real world and they should be lucky to live in it. All the while, David searches the television for the repairman, in hopes that they will be able to return to their real lives. I enjoyed the story and really liked the political scheming and legal chicanery that goes on in this book, Still, I found that it lacked the spark that inspires readers to keep turning pages long into the night.
