After he leaves he has a run of bad luck and no choice but to end up on the streets of London. Now he has to respect other and follows the rules in order to stay away from jail. After considering various reasons for Ginger's disappearance, Link decides to ask around. Link had been mugged for his watch by another homeless man earlier on in the novel. They had very critical roles in the murder and how they themselves were caught, and in many ways they were foils for one another. Although Link no longer wants to be committed to people, she remembers how Ginger helped her and she also loves to refuse the request.
