The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the country of Panem has risen from the ashes of a destroyed North America. Panem is divided into 12 districts, each of which is required to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal annual event in which the children must fight to the death in a controlled arena until only one remains. The Hunger Games are broadcasted on live television, and the winner's district is showered with riches while the other districts continue to suffer in poverty.
The main character of the book is a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen, who lives in District 12, the poorest district in Panem. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. After many years of hunting game in the woods, her prowess with the bow and arrow are unrivaled. Katniss steels herself for what comes next, even as she struggles with the ramifications of the Games. The only way out is to make believe her love for Peeta compelled her do it.
In this case, the mutts have been altered to wear the faces of the dead tributes. Katniss kills the other tribute, and when Rue dies, she covers her body in flowers. Snow uses fear and intimidation to keep the districts in line. Peeta, who was wounded while running from the mutts is bleeding heavily. As night falls, Katniss ties herself in the tree again to sleep. .
The creatures are mutant wolves engineered by the Capitol, and Katniss realizes they are actually the dead tributes, who have been turned into these monsters. Almost all are healthier and bigger than her. Together, they are thrown into a competition that no one believes they will be able to come back alive. There are some other twists between then and the final page, but by then I was rather annoyed with the whole thing. Gale is less showcased in this novel than he is in the rest of the trilogy but he is still an important character behind-the-scenes. Every locale represents considerable authority in giving a decent or administration to The Capitol and its well off populace, while the nationals of every region battle to live. The hunger games consist of twenty-four teenagers, a male and a female from each twelve districts and they range in ages of twelve to eighteen.
During the reaping, which is a drawing performed by Effie Trinket, Katniss volunteers as tribute in replace of her sister. There was suspense, Katniss was sweet and witty, but overall this book is a shitty meltdown. The male tribute goes by the name Peeta Mellark. One food for the blind intellect, other for the digestion which both results in basic survival without any interference of you in all of it. I just didn't believe there was as little fear in them as there appeared to be - given that they are children. They show off their strengths to the Gamemakers, the people who run the Games, in their private sessions with them. Next, Gale arrives and promises her that he won't let her family starve without her.

This affluent capitol enslaves each of the 12 surrounding districts and exploits their natural resources. To reinforce the power of the Capitol by instilling fear in the population, once a year, two children from each region are selected by lots to fight to the death in a reality show.
It is set in the future. A small, silver parachute soon descends from the sky to Katniss' tree. However, she does attempt to commit suicide as an act of defiance against the Capitol, along with her partner and male tribute from District 12, Peeta Mellark. The poorest of the districts, District 12 is largely neglected by the Capital. Katniss is furious at Peeta and accosts him after the interview.
The tributes from the closest three districts to the Capitol are called 'Career tributes' as they spend their whole life training for the games and volunteered to be in them. The last part of the Hunger Games is Katniss and Peeta have won the game and come back to the Capitol and get healed before they go home. She realizes that Haymitch will reward her for playing up the romance between her and Peeta. Madge is dressed for the Reaping and excited about the process. Imagining The Hunger Games Imagine a future world where the government controls nearly every aspect of your life. Collins has stated that she drew on ideas from Roman and Greek mythology and reality television to create the book. Katniss Everdeen is a teenager in District 12, an especially poor district whose economy is based on coal mining.
Katniss does not kill herself at the end of the Hunger Games. She also plays the part of a lover to gain sympathy from the sponsors during the Games. Is Katniss supposed to look like she's about to burst into tears at any given moment, or is that just Jennifer Lawrence? In this way, the less capable people that she cares for in the book are also caring for her in turn.
