Sunita Williams is an American astronaut and a former United States Navy officer who has broken several records during her time in space. Born in Euclid, Ohio in 1965, Williams grew up in Needham, Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science from the United States Naval Academy in 1987. She later earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from Florida Institute of Technology.

She also set a record for the most spacewalks by a woman, with a total of four during her mission.
In 2012, Williams returned to the ISS for a second mission, which lasted from July 2012 to November 2012. During this mission, she served as the commander of the ISS and became the first woman to hold this position.
