This behavior of his is seen in the movie even before he reveals it. Besides, Adam's coming between his parents at the end of the introduction could represent his pivotal role in the family. Have watched it several times and have determined this to be one of my classic Hallmark movies, along with the 1985 movie, Love is Never Silent. It is not for the deaf community, or the hearing world, or a judge to decide - it is the family, and that was, to me, the message of this film. There are also football and baseball posters which are sports we see him play. I have to evaluate her on her facial expressions, and she has such a pretty face to look at anyway.
Adam is eight years old. The acting is great, I was impressed with Jeff Daniels portraying emotion over his son and wife, especially since the last time I had seen him was when he was hanging out with Jim Carrey and driving a Dog-Van! Additionally, when Dan and Adam are returning from the hospital, we see their car pass Walnut St which is a street in the location. I also wondered if another thing contributing to Adam's reluctance to speak was that his school was primarily a signing school. Also - Marlee Matlin's character was too confusing for me at times. Shockingly, there are people wearing tops of red shade on the other tables too.

Very good intro to those who have no idea about issues that can arise in the deaf community.

I believe, one day, science will be able to restore one's hearing without the benefits of a cochlear implant - its only a matter of time, when it will happen in the future. The casting of Jeff Daniels as Dan Miller, was a stroke of luck for the people involved in the film. I also frankly was mesmerized by how those who are deaf can be included and participate in so many experiences that I hadn't realized they could be included in such as going to the movies. Not usually a fan of Hallmark movies, I decided to watch this one anyways and I fell in love from the get go. She does not consider herself disabled, and unlike Adam, she has no memory of actually hearing. In addition to the voicing and speaking, I am glad they also included the reality of using American Sign Language in this movie. There is also a painting of ships on the sea which can be associated with his Pirates Of The Caribbean themed birthday party.
I gave it a 9 because it not only dealt with such an issue we don't always get to see from every side and did it in a way that all sides can enjoy and appreciate. During scenes of intense argument and emotion, even depicting a turning point for some of the characters, we have minutes of camera switches between characters' faces. It was nice to see how the actors who played the maternal grandparents in this movie had gracefully aged from when they were younger in the movie, Love is Never Silent. Be it on the side of their staircase or their kitchen, most of their walls have This could show their connection to nature and the way it impacts their decisions. This is definitely a mesmerizing film which is not to be missed.

They try and see each other's views but have a hard time doing so.
Loved this movie about Deaf and Hearing in the family and the love that flowed throughout. Marlee Matlin cannot talk like people who can hear, and yet her words are spoken perfectly. Where's the motivation to really try to develop the desire to talk and to really improve one's speech skills, if everyone's signing? Buoyed by Marlee Matlin and Jeff Daniels' strong performances, the Hall of Fame's 233rd entry suffers a tepid ending but still gets its thoughtful point across, loud and clear. When the names of the lead actors are introduced at the start of the movie, we see Dan and Laura interact with each other using their hands. In conclusion to my first ever review on here, so be gentle! When Laura jogs, there is a shop in the background with its phone number written on a glass window. The supporting cast adds another dimension to the story. Moreover, Dan hears about the surgery for the first when these red motifs appear, thus giving a subtle hint of what is to come.
Jeff Daniels is absolutely fantastic as the father. It was laughable and it made deaf people feel like lesser people. The doctor informs Dan that Adam might be a candidate for a cochlear implant, which would give him some hearing. Is it because he can't hear himself talk any more,there's no longer that auditory feedback, and it's all strange, confusing, and somewhat stressful, so he doesn't try? Besides, he also makes appointments for Laura and himself regarding Adam's cochlear implant surgery, before asking her about it. His father Dan is in public relations and about to be promoted to vice president, and his mother Laura, who is deaf, teaches math at a school for the deaf. Noah speaks a couple of times and does a very good job; after researching the movie I found he is actually deaf, as are Waterstreet and Frelich, who also do well. The number starts with 626 which is the area code for the aforementioned state.
