The end has begun. This statement may seem dramatic or alarmist, but the truth is that the end of something always marks the beginning of something else. In this case, the end that is referred to is the end of the world as we know it.
There are many factors that contribute to the feeling that the end has begun. One of the most significant is the current state of the environment. In the Middle East, the overthrow of Saddam and the ensuing civil chaos has resulted in the massacre of Christian communities, as ISIS and other hostile powers fight for power. The interpretation of this passage has undergone changes over the centuries. Hostile authorities already exist.
That this sign is being fulfilled means the time of the end has begun, although few people are aware of it. The Romans crushed the rebellion and in the aftermath, the Roman army not only destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem but they destroyed the country itself, forcing surviving Jews to flee. Just as Satan disguises himself as an angel in white, so will those working for the Beast will too cloth themselves deceptively, acting as if they are trying to achieve noble purpose. Whether their motivation is money or power or just plain meanness, they target Christian communities to cause death and havoc. He will rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem and in the name of the Jewish moschiach, he will command all those under his dominion to worship him. The first rider started his work decades ago, and will continue to inhabit our world until the anti-Christ ascends to his final position of power. Maybe you are happy it's occurring, or you may have been appalled by it.
