Ik vond het geweldig hoe de Oceaan vorm kreeg, hoe ze een stem had en een persoonlijkheid en een fysieke aanwezigheid die van een haast abstract begrip een niet altijd even toegankelijke moederfiguur maakten. Terwijl de golven haar naar beneden proberen te lokken, probeert Kahlen zich aan het leven vast te grijpen. Als je houdt van fantasy en sirenen dan is dit boek zeker iets voor jou. I thought it'd help to have those all collected in one place, so we now have a Second: The novella has a title! I never thought that would happen for this book, so I'm thrilled to see it being translated. Sorry for the lack of updates, but being a new mom is harder than you'd think! Je krijgt niet de kans om ze echt te leren kennen. Wat een ontzettend mooi en origineel verhaal! Het is liefde op het eerste gezicht, hij is alles waar ze ooit van heeft gedroomd. Misschien, als ik dit niet zo hoog had in geschat na het lezen van de selectie en mij te laten verleiden door de prachtige cover mag gezegd worden , dat ik het stukken beter had gevonden.
De schrijfstijl van Kiera Cass leest ook wel vlot en fijn. Haar stem is dodelijk voor iedereen die haar hoort, dus ze leeft een afgezonderd leven met haar zusters. Ik vond het in het begin wat langdradig en saai. Op een hele mooie manier weet ze de oceaan tot leven te brengen. Geweldig dat Cass van de Oceaan ook een personage gemaakt heeft.
Buiten dit boek zaten er ook nog allerlei verwennerijen in, heerlijk! In de proloog wordt meteen duidelijk hoe ze een sirene werd. De gesprekken tussen Kahlen en de oceaan vond ik heel bijzonder, een prachtige balans tussen verdriet en liefde. Een modern sprookje waardoor je meer te weten komt over mythologische sirenen. Uit het dankwoord blijkt wel dat dit het allereerste boek is dat Cass ooit heeft geschreven. Ocean cares intensely for Kahlen. Vind het stiekem jammer dat er geen 2de deel van is.
Natuurlijk valt Kahlen voor de eerste persoon in tachtig jaar die haar als meer ziet dan een verschijning, de eerste persoon die haar aandacht geeft voor wie ze is. Alhoewel ik het idee van het verhaal heel interessant vind en origineel, spatte de vonken er niet vanaf. En zo ja, wat zal de Oceaan daarvan denken? Sindsdien leeft Kahlen met haar nieuwe zusters als Sirene in dienst van de Oceaan. . Alle levens die de oceaan haar laat nemen met haar gezang zorgen voor onrust bij Kahlen, maar er is niemand met wie ze hierover kan praten. Het leek één grote waas, geen vooruitgang en de gehele tijd depressief gedrag, nee, daar houd ik echt niet van! Ik vond het altijd fijn om meer over de Oceaan te weten te komen. Maar, het is een beginnersboek.
It's pretty cheesy but enjoyable and the teen romance element is really underplayed. Slowly it came to the point were Akinli was on the bridge of dying. Wanneer Kahlen onder een boom zit te tekenen, ontmoet ze Akinli. Hopefully now that life is starting to get normal again, I'll be able to post things more often. All but six have been sent home. So Kahlen's siren sisters took her back to Akinli were she was changed back to human and forgotten everything she knew. Akinli then finds her on the sand and asks her to come to his cousin's house, after spending a couple days and nights there, one day Kahlen accidentally speaks to Akinli causing him to hop into the ocean, Kahlen goes after him and begs the Ocean to let him live, she agrees eventually but adds fifty years time for her to serve her instead of taking his life.
