In the first book of the series, the Hunger Games, the first person to die is a boy named Glimmer, who is a tribute from the District 1. Glimmer is killed by tracker jackers, which are genetically altered wasps that are released into the arena and can cause hallucinations and extreme pain.
Another early death in the Hunger Games is that of a girl named Rue, who is a tribute from District 11. Rue is a small, nimble girl who forms an alliance with Katniss and helps her survive in the arena. However, she is eventually killed by Marvel, a tribute from District 1, while trying to retrieve supplies for Katniss.
As the Hunger Games progresses, more and more tributes are killed, until there are only a few left standing.
