Character Analysis of Devdas in the Novel and Movie
Overall this movie ruled, and I would watch it over and over again. Sarat Chandra does not describe characters but puts them in difficult situations to which the reader has to infer into the character, as Devdas has become an identifiable figure in the many movie adaptations or of characters that pine for unfulfilled love. His healthdeteriorates because of a combination of excessive drinkingand despair of life—a drawn-out form of suicide. I wanted to give it less stars because it is so tragic and hopeless but you can't deny its power, its message, and its lasting effect. To demonstrate her own social status,Paro's mother then finds an even richer husband for Paro.
He grew up in the lush village of Taj Sonapur, where he spent his childhood with his playmate Paro. Paro and Devdas have quite the relationship. Devdas, I suspect, was the beginning of Bhansali's marriage with perfection and prose—an abusive, fascinating relationship that would thrive on its imperfections in the years to come. Sensing his fast-approaching death, Devdas returns to meetParo to fulfill his vow. Expectedly, the much-hyped film has taken a historic start all over, but it lacks in merits and most importantly, repeat value, which is so very vital to recover the colossal investment that has gone into its making. After his wealthy family prohibits him from marrying the woman he is in love with, Devdas Mukherjee's life spirals further and further out of control as he takes up alcohol and a life of vice to numb the pain. The score and sound track is enchanting.
I gotta say it was absolutely spectacular. Devdas is sent away abroad so that he can improve himself. And that is a great achievement. His true friend becomes his alcohol; little does he know that it is the alcohol that will kill him. .
